Lauren and David Liess’ Beach House in the Outer Banks

Interior designer Lauren Liess and her husband, project manager David Liess, had long dreamed of owning a beach home in the Outer Banks for their family of seven. That dream finally became reality when the couple, while browsing online one late evening, purchased a beach shack in Duck, NC, sight unseen. Although the home had solid potential, it also came with significant water damage and structural challenges, leaving Lauren and David with a major project ahead.

Staying true to her signature style, Lauren envisioned a lived-in space that could comfortably house her large family while providing a peaceful retreat from the craziness of everyday life. Now lovingly called "The Dune House," the home features sweeping ocean views, laid-back interiors, kitsch nautical touches, and a thoughtful blend of natural materials that beautifully reflect its tranquil coastal surroundings.
