As September quickly approaches, there’s one thing on our minds: back to school shopping. Here at Homeworthy, we’ve been going down a social media rabbit hole watching young, savvy, and design-driven college students deck out their dorms to make them feel a bit more like home. Hoping to help guide those eager to transform their uninspiring, tight, and uniform dorms into sophisticated and functional havens, we tapped our Homeworthy college intern to gather the stylish essentials.
Extra-Long Bed Skirt
There’s a universal truth when it comes to dorms: storage is lacking. That’s why so many students opt to raise up their beds a couple notches and keep a few drawers and bins below. To ensure we’re not getting glimpses to what’s stuffed underneath, an extra-long bed skirt is a must. We’re loving the clean lines of this tailored one.
Ottoman with Storage
Speaking of sparse storage, a chic way to get a bit more is through a small side chair with a hidden cubbie. We’re loving the the neutral brown and mist green materials on this one, and see it as the perfect spot to fold away extra bed linens.
Wall Art
A simple way to instantly elevate the look of your small space is by adding art. And a gallery wall is an easy way to do that. We found a collection of bright pieces that will bring color to an otherwise beige room, without breaking the bank. Frame them with a simple white border and they’ll look simultaneously high-end and playful.
Lamp
While harsh dorm lighting isn’t the most flattering on a space, we know the perfect way to give it a little upgrade. These scalloped LED lamps are chargable and don’t require any cords or outlets, so you can move them around from nightstand to desk, adding a touch of whimsy color and mood lighting to your small space.
Rug
As we’ve learned from many of our expert interior designers and tasteful homeowners, adding a rug is sometimes all you need to finish off a space. And dorms are no different. This Roller Rabbit Medallion rug brings in soft colors and texture, while still blending in with any of the built-in dorm furniture.
