Everything But The House: Where I Go When I’m Craving a Great Find

By Alison Kenworthy, Founder of Homeworthy

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always loved the thrill of the hunt. As we decorated our New York City apartment, Michael and I spent many long weekends driving to the Hudson Valley in search of antiques and heirlooms. There’s something satisfying about wandering through a little shop packed with old treasures searching for one perfect piece tucked between the unexpected. But let’s be honest: sometimes you don’t have the time (or the energy) to spend an entire weekend or afternoon combing through shelves.

Enter Everything But The House—EBTH.

It’s an online treasure trove that truly lives up to its name, offering everything you’d find in a home, from fine jewelry and vintage handbags to art, furniture, and those one-of-a-kind pieces that make a space feel collected and personal.

For someone (ahem, me!) who is surprisingly not tech savvy, what I love most is how easy it is to browse. EBTH operates as an auction marketplace, so you can scroll, discover, and bid right from your couch. New items are added daily, and bidding often starts at accessible price points, which makes the whole experience feel a bit like a game—in the best way. The company was founded in 2008 and has grown to be a go-to destination for design lovers, collectors, and anyone who appreciates a good find without the legwork.

Of course, I couldn’t resist diving in—and a few pieces immediately caught my eye:

14K Etched Bangle

I can never have too many gold bangles, and this simple 14k bracelet with beautiful detailed etching feels like something I’d wear every day, stacked or on its own. It’s timeless, effortless, and exactly the kind of piece that quietly elevates your look.

Gucci Vintage Top Handle Bag in Black Smooth Calfskin Leather

And you know I love a vintage designer bag—this classic black Gucci top-handle is such a steal with an amazing patina. There’s something about an older handbag that just feels more special… probably because it has stories to tell.

Gucci 1100L Gold Plated Swiss Quartz Watch with Interchangeable Bezels

While we’re talking about Gucci…how fun is this watch? It comes with interchangeable bezels, so you can switch up the look depending on your mood or outfit. It’s playful, a little unexpected, and totally chic.

Dansk “Kobenstyle” Enamelware Red Pots

I’m also drawn to pieces with a bit of nostalgia. These Dansk Kobenstyle red enamel pots immediately reminded me of items I’ve collected (and inherited from my Grandmother) over the years. They’re functional, yes—but also bring that perfect pop of color to a kitchen whether or not you use them for cooking or decoration.

Y. Wang Still Life Oil Painting of Raspberries, 2024

Speaking of kitchens, I love incorporating art into unexpected places. A still life of raspberries or a pastoral European landscape adds warmth and personality—those little moments that make a house feel layered and lived-in.

Herend Green Fishnet with Gold “Dashing Duckling” Porcelain Figurine

For the kids, I’ve started collecting Herend figurines—each one feels like a tiny treasure. This duckling is so sweet, and I love the idea of building a collection they can grow up with and maybe even pass down one day.

English Regency Style Faux Tortoise Shell Painted Three-Tier Étagère

And finally, a piece I always think every home needs: a great little side table. This English Regency-style faux tortoise shell étagère is full of character—perfect for a drink, a stack of books, or a few favorite objects. It’s those finishing touches that really make a space.

What’s especially special about EBTH is the range of sellers. Items come from estates, collectors, and individuals across the country, which means every piece has a history—and you never quite know what you’ll find next.

That’s the magic of it.

It’s the thrill of the hunt, reimagined for real life—when you want the discovery, but maybe not the dust or the hours. And trust me, once you start browsing, it’s very hard to stop.
