James Dolenc and Thomas Riker of Chicago studio James Thomas transformed this transitional space into a trip through the Mediterranean, wrapping the stair in honey-colored Phillip Jeffries grasscloth embellished with hand-painted details and a curated collection of art.

In this episode, Dolenc walks us through how the duo layered textures and tones to create depth and warmth — from The Shade Store-crafted window treatments made with Schumacher and Cowtan & Tout fabrics to an over-the-top floral arrangement by Tawana Schlegel that brings the entire scene to life.

The Kips Bay Decorator Show House in New York City is an annual design event where top interior designers transform a luxury Manhattan residence into a stunning showcase of creativity. Founded in 1973, it serves as the signature fundraiser for the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club, with all proceeds supporting after-school and enrichment programs for thousands of children in the Bronx and beyond.
