Inside a Rustic Catskills Farmhouse That’s Also a Restaurant & Inn
We’re heading to the Catskills visiting Jake Sackett and Elizabeth Starks at Bovina Farm & Fermentory—their home, inn, farm-to-table restaurant, and working farm all rolled into one.
Though neither Jake nor Elizabeth are professionally trained chefs, they’ve transformed the ground floor of their farmhouse into one of upstate New York’s most beloved dining destinations. Styled after a nearby tavern, the restaurant offers a warm, communal setting where locals and travelers alike gather to share seasonal, family-style meals.
Just upstairs are two charming guest rooms—one of which Jake and Elizabeth have called home for the last four years while slowly building up the farm, often with their own hands.
While the farmhouse may be a new build, warm details and historical touches give it a rustic, lived-in feel. Antique finds from across upstate New York, heirloom milking stools and jugs once belonging to Jake’s grandfather, handmade pottery gifted by friends, and thoughtfully sourced treasures from France make it feel as though this home has stood on this land for generations.
Cozy, quiet, and surrounded by nature, Bovina Farm & Fermentory is a deeply personal, beautifully rustic retreat nestled in the heart of the Catskills.
