The Washington Winter Antiques Show captivated attendees with over 40 vendors from around the world, distinguished panels, and notable figures such as honorary speaker Lady Henrietta Spencer-Churchill and artist in residence Josh Young.
In the heart of the nation’s capital, a tradition dating back to 1955 continues to weave its magic – the Washington Winter Antiques Show, a timeless celebration of art, history, and philanthropy. Established with a noble cause of supporting local charities for at-risk children and families, this event has become a cornerstone in the realm of charitable antiques shows, proudly holding the title of the second oldest in the United States.
This year’s edition of the Washington Winter Antiques Show unfolded over four enchanting days, offering a mesmerizing journey through over 40 vendors showcasing an exquisite array of fine art, antiques, and curiosities. Homeworthy, privileged with early access, offers exclusive insight into the event.
Globally sourced items were beautifully showcased, from gorgeous transferware and 17th century oil paintings to fabulous crystal chandeliers and antique furniture – just to name a few of the marvelous curiosities available for purchase.
The show transcended the boundaries of a traditional exhibition by offering enriching panels, and the design aficionados were in for a treat. The design panel, a highlight of this year’s event, featured a star-studded lineup including the likes of India Hicks, Celerie Kemble, and Alex Papachristidis along with his honorary invitee – his adorable pup Cooper, who arrived in style nestled within the chicest of totes.
A particular gem in the event’s lineup was the Friday Lecture & Luncheon, sponsored by Farrow & Ball, where Lady Henrietta Spencer-Churchill, an English interior decorator and founder of Woodstock Designs, took center stage. Lady Henrietta delved into the historical development of architecture across England, offering attendees a profound understanding of the country’s rich heritage. Her discussion not only spanned centuries but also unveiled her interior design projects in some of England’s most distinguished residential castles and estates.
The artistic spirit thrived at the Washington Winter Antiques Show, with this year’s artist in residence being the talented Josh Young. Based in Washington, D.C., Josh seamlessly fuses Old World elements with bold, modern techniques, showcasing an avant-garde approach to classical portraits since 2009. His presence added a contemporary flair to the event, drawing inspiration from the fusion of history and modernity.
As the curtains fall on this year’s spectacular showcase, anticipation looms for the grand celebration of the event’s 70th anniversary next year. Promising to be even more lavish and exciting, the Washington Winter Antiques Show continues to stand as a testament to the enduring appeal of art, culture, and the enduring spirit of giving back to the community.
