Cotswolds Country Estate with Renowned Gardens

Nestled within the idyllic Cotswold landscape, Lyegrove stands as a testament to centuries of history and refinement.

Unveiling the Timeless Elegance of Lyegrove: A Country House in the Cotswolds

This enchanting country house, boasting famous formal gardens, invites you to step into a world where the past seamlessly intertwines with the present. The estate is on the market for £12,500,000 listed with Bluebook Agency.

A Storied Legacy: Unraveling Lyegrove’s Past

The roots of Lyegrove trace back over three centuries, with the first recorded mention by Sir Robert Atkyns in ‘The Ancient and Present state of Gloucestershire.’ The manor house, erected in the early 17th century, has undergone a series of alterations and additions, resulting in the splendid Lyegrove we see today. The carved fireplace in the drawing room, dating back to around 1728, adds a touch of historical grandeur.

In 1830, the Hartley family embarked on a significant restoration, introducing long sashed windows and modifying the east wing. A classic stable block, emblematic of the fashionable households of the time, was added in 1856. Lyegrove later became part of the renowned Badminton Estate, with the 14th Earl and Countess of Westmorland purchasing it in 1926. Their enhancements, including a distinctive porch and shields bearing the Westmorland crest, added further character to the property.

Gardens of Distinction: A Lush Tapestry of Natural Beauty

Lyegrove’s fame extends beyond its walls to its gardens, celebrated in publications like ‘Great Gardens of Britain.’ Described as “a garden laid out like a Persian carpet,” these grounds have achieved international acclaim for their beauty. The current owners have dutifully continued this tradition, ensuring that both the house and gardens radiate an elegance rarely witnessed.

A Grand Entrance and Elegant Interiors

Approaching Lyegrove through fine gates and a tree-lined avenue sets the stage for the grandeur within. The house is a masterpiece of architectural harmony, with a grass forecourt leading to an elaborate stone porch. The interior, arranged around a central courtyard, showcases spacious, south-facing reception rooms that effortlessly flow into one another.

The first floor mirrors the ground floor’s layout, hosting a principal bedroom suite, five additional bedroom suites, and a magnificent library. The second floor offers flexibility, whether as a self-contained unit or additional bedrooms. A self-contained one-bedroom flat on the ground floor provides versatility as a guest suite or staff flat.

Conveniently Located for Modern Living

Lyegrove’s rural splendor doesn’t sacrifice convenience. Just a short drive from Chipping Sodbury, with Tetbury, Malmesbury, and Bath offering comprehensive shopping, the property is exceptionally well-connected. Railway stations at Chippenham and Bath provide fast rail services to Paddington, while the nearby M4 (Junction 18) facilitates swift access to Bristol and London.
