DIY Inspiration to Transform Your Home

When decorating our homes, most of us search for more affordable ways to create our dream ambiance. And that’s where DIYs come in. Doing It Yourself not only means you can save on budget, but you can also build out the exact look you’re going for when you can’t find it in store.

Among the hundreds of stunning residences we’ve seen across the country at Homeworthy, many crafty homeowners have revealed the ways they’ve incorporated DIYs to enhance their spaces.

On Instagram, too, creatives are inspiring their followers by revealing the processes behind their custom projects. One interior design enthusiast, Nate Long (@longingtocomehome) showcased his impressive DIYed library wall while breaking down the price – and the clip received nearly 8 million views.

The pine boards he used for the base were $400, the beadboard backing $90, paint $70, and miscellaneous materials $30 – totaling at only $590 for a stunning transformation. The final product meant his home office had a sophisticated, seamless look, with the wall-to-wall bookshelf as the focal point, and the clean lined furniture accenting it. An oversized beige club chair sat in the corner, a wood desk and woven chair in the center, and mood lighting throughout.

“We did not use an Ikea hack because we really wanted the proportions of the shelves to blend perfectly with our wall and window. The top shelf and bottom shelf align perfectly with our window for a seamless look,” he noted in the caption.

As for another DIY we’re loving, Melissa Leduc (@dusty_rose_blog) proved you can add a touch of elegance to any space if you put in a little time and effort.

To dress up her home’s simple archway, she used various wood beams to give it its own unique molding. She began by lining the sides of the doorway with textured beams. Moving onto the top, she first added a flat beam for backing and then placed a carved one above.

In the corners, she screwed in triangular carved pieces that really made it stand out and feel intentional.

After painting the beams a shade darker than the walls, the project was complete and felt like it belonged in the home all along.

“One of the best ways to add character to your home? Add molding,” she wrote in the clip.

Her clip received thousands of likes, with many viewers eager to give it a try themselves.
