On The Market: Places I’d Rather Be In Quarantine

For the past five weeks I’ve been self-isolating with my husband and sister–and while we feel ever so fortunate to have our health and to have the company of each other, it’s hard for me not to daydream about life outside the four walls of our house that I’ve been staring at for almost a month and a half. So, I went down an online rabbit hole of insanely ridiculous and over the top properties that are currently for sale around the world–and honestly–they’re jaw-dropping. PLZEN MESTO, CZECH REPUBLIC: This chateau, about an hour outside of Prague, has towers, wings, balconies, covered walkways, a restaurant, and even its own chapel so my dad has a place to pray when he visits (he’s an Episcopal priest!)

PARIS, FRANCE: The 16th arrondissement has long been known as one of French high society’s most desirable places to live so it’s no wonder this jewel box of an apartment is nestled in this elegant neighborhood. One look at these photos and you’ll feel as if you’ve stepped back into time. I love everything about this. Everything–even those fabulous mint green walls!

TUSCANY, ITALY: These 17th-century aristocratic properties have been meticulously restored while maintaining their original charm and character with frescoed walls, wood beamed ceilings, terracotta floors, fireplaces, and wine cellars. I’ll TAKE IT!

MARRAKECH, MOROCCO: This house has not one but FIVE spectacularly designed master bedroom suites. But this isn’t just any house…it’s more like a compound with a cinema, hammam, gym, tennis court and a swimming pool and pool house, with views of the Atlas Mountains.

MARTHA’S VINEYARD, MASSACHUSETTS: For $65 million, you can vacation like a first lady. Red Gate Farm is a beautiful oceanfront escape etched into the New England coastline. This wild 340-acre sanctuary at the edge of Squibnocket Pond, complete with over a mile of Atlantic Ocean beachfront, was the Martha’s Vineyard estate of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. The former first lady purchased it for around $1 million in the late 1970’s and it was put on the market in June 2019 by her daughter Caroline.

MONTECITO, CALIFORNIA: This sprawling hilltop Monterey estate was designed in 1931 with about 30,000 sq.ft. and over 30 rooms. For nearly 100 years this property has been under the ownership of one family…so if you’re in the market for a home with 12 bedrooms and an additional 10 residential cottages…then this place is for you! (And all your aunts and uncles…and cousins and second cousins.)

KILAUEA, HAWAII: I don’t know what else to say about this jaw-dropping property except that if you buy it, you’ll have your own waterfall. Comprised of two large parcels, this offering features varying topography and terrain, from gently sloping hardwood forests to flat meadows, as well as diverse water features including large fish ponds, flowing streams, and so much more. It’s practically a nature preserve.
