Snooping Around

Paige Nichols Welcomes Homeworthy Into Her Buenos Aires Apartment

Originally from the Washington, DC area, Paige moved to Buenos Aires 13 years ago. She hosts a weekly video news roundup with The Bubble in addition to co-hosting the podcast Bad Information, a love letter to the highs and lows of living abroad. When she’s not out and about, Paige is either hanging out on her rooftop terrace with her plants, or whipping up a curry, glass of wine in hand. A true Libra, she’s constantly looking for ways to make her home as inviting, beautiful, and balanced as possible.

HOMEWORTHY: How do you describe your interior design style?

PAIGE NICHOLS: It’s an eclectic mix, bringing together masculine and feminine elements that strike a balance between my inner maximalist and (wannabe) minimalist. I really like to incorporate elements with a story behind them, be it from a trip we’ve taken, a flea market discovery, or something of my mom’s that I’ve brought back from the States.

HOMEWORTHY: What are your favorite things in your home?

PN: I just adore the aguayo-upholstered ottoman that I got from a shop in Palermo a few years ago. It’s charming and playful, and what’s not to love about fuchsia? I also can’t get enough of the kilim I got at auction for our dining room. When I saw it, I had to have it! The colors are spectacular and the size was perfect for the large, open space. Hauling it home on foot by myself after I paid for it is another story, though!

HOMEWORTHY: What item have you splurged on?

PN: The custom shelving and storage for our dining room. I worked with a local carpentry design group that created a solution to maximize space while allowing me to showcase all of the bits and bobs I’ve collected over the years. It’s practical – plenty of storage for our gazillion wine glasses! – and streamlined, but I still love looking at it every day.

HOMEWORTHY: Any sneaky decorating tricks?

PN: Living in Argentina, I don’t always have the convenience of online shopping or international shipping, which sometimes makes me feel like I’m on an island. There’s only so much you can haul in a suitcase! When I’m itching for a change, I like to move things around and play with different combinations. It keeps my eye sharp and serves as a reminder that the answer isn’t always in buying more. I also think books are still the best way to add texture, personality, and warmth to a home. The more, the merrier!

HOMEWORTHY: Go-to hostess gift?

PN: A massive bouquet of tuberose and eucalyptus, and a fun bottle of wine tucked into my favorite leather carrier from local brand Nimes.
