A Colorful Family Farm in Santa Barbara’s Wine Country
Chickens, and goats, and donkeys—oh my! We’re stepping inside the vibrant, color-forward home and farm of interior designer Maggie Clancy, nestled in the rolling hills of Santa Ynez, California.
Once a funky art gallery just north of Santa Barbara in Southern California’s wine country, this unique space captured Maggie and her husband’s imagination from the start. With a clear vision and a year’s long renovation, they transformed the former gallery into a whimsical and charming family getaway—complete with hidden doors, a staircase slide, a movie theater, and an abundance of personality.
As the house took shape, so did the surrounding farm. Today, the property is home to a joyful menagerie of goats, chickens, ducks, and two utterly adorable donkeys. Every detail of the home was thoughtfully designed to blur the boundary between indoors and out, with a color palette inspired by the world just beyond the family’s door—delicate bird eggs nestled in a nearby nest, and the rich greens and purples of homegrown artichokes.
A picture window in the kitchen frames a view of wild cows roaming the land, while the pantry is stocked with everything needed to host effortless outdoor gatherings. It’s playful, practical, and deeply personal. This is how you do country living!
