Colorful Collector’s Kitchen in a London Flat England

Art dealer and homeware designer Domenica Marland walks us through the kitchen of her Bloomsbury flat in London, England — a surprisingly big space for a small flat, and a maximalist's playground of glass, plates, and layered collections. Domenica founded her art platform in 2018 to sell affordable, unique works by emerging artists, then expanded into designing her own homeware after the cost-of-living crisis put pressure on the small independent brands she loved. Both sides of that business fill this kitchen.

The flat came with a built-in shelving structure left by a friend who lived here before her, which she's put to constant use displaying her trinkets and bits and bobs. She's a self-described massive glass collector. The shelves hold glasses she brought back from Venice, where she once lived, alongside her own Murano-made pieces, vintage Murano given to her by her mother, and the wine glasses from her collection that sell out online every time she restocks. She collects plates just as compulsively — an exclusive collaboration plate, a gift from a holiday in Brazil, and a hand-lettered piece reading "I can resist anything but dessert," which she says is very her.

True to someone who rearranges her space at least once a day, the kitchen is styled as much as used. One of her Allegro trays corrals clutter on the counter; stacked artworks and books make the room feel curated rather than purely functional. Her favorite things here are the Miranda Barrow mugs she buys one of each year — the perfect size for a cup of tea.

And because she loves to host, she's laid the table for friends coming that evening, mixing a Lisa Corti tablecloth bought in Rome with lacquer placemats and her own online cutlery.
