Inside a Classic Connecticut Home With a Coastal Christmas Charm

When Meg Young and her family moved from Los Angeles to Westport, Connecticut, they set out to create a home that blended the convenience of new construction with the traditional details she had always admired.

Built in 2020, the house features curved archways, classic millwork and a sweeping staircase, while a palette of blue and white, natural materials and coastal-inspired furnishings gives the interiors a distinctly traditional coastal feel.

Young, founder and creative director of Cailíní Coastal, brought that same sensibility to the home's holiday decorations, layering in seasonal color and familiar family traditions.

Throughout the house, Christmas takes shape in a variety of ways. In the living room, a flocked tree is dressed in blue and aqua ornaments, layered ribbons and capiz shells. A more traditional red-and-green tree brings a festive contrast to the dining room, while a pink tree in the guest bedroom continues a tradition Young started in childhood and now shares with her daughters.

Wreaths, tabletop trees, holiday houses and touches of tartan appear throughout the home, alongside vintage finds and personal keepsakes. Young also shares her approach to decorating trees, setting a holiday table and making the most of pieces already in the house.

“I love that there is such joy that comes through with holiday decorating and decor," Young said.
