Inside the Muskoka Home of Shark Tank’s Robert Herjavec & DWTS’s Kym Johnson

Perched on a peninsula in Muskoka, Shark Tank star and entrepreneur Robert Herjavec and Dancing with the Stars pro Kym Johnson Herjavec retreat to their lakeside home, a celebration of the Canadian landscape—and of a slower, more connected way of living. Known as the “Hamptons of Canada,” Muskoka is a beloved summer destination defined by its glittering lakes, classic boathouses, and famously laid-back spirit. For Robert, who grew up in a one-room apartment before his family eventually bought their first house, owning a place here represents a full-circle moment.

The couple’s home embraces the character of its setting, with natural wood, stone, and expansive views of the water from nearly every room. Rather than adhering to a particular design style, Robert wanted the house to feel unmistakably Muskoka—timeless, unfussy, and rooted in its surroundings. Outside, the property is designed for bringing people together, with multiple homes for visiting friends and family, a pizza oven, barbecues, and endless opportunities for time on the water.

For Robert, the home is also a reflection of his journey. The entrepreneur, investor, and cybersecurity expert has built a decades-long career in business, founding his own technology company before becoming one of the best-known Sharks on ABC’s Shark Tank, where he has appeared for more than 15 years as both an investor and executive producer. Kym, meanwhile, built her career as a professional ballroom dancer, becoming a familiar face on Dancing with the Stars and earning multiple Mirrorball trophies before later serving as a judge on the Australian version of the series. It was actually on the dance floor, when Robert competed on Dancing with the Stars with Kym as his professional partner, that the two first met.

Now, away from the cameras and the ballroom, the couple returns to Muskoka for what matters most: family, friends, long summer days, and life by the lake. Their home is a timeless expression of its surroundings—and a place designed, above all, to be lived in.

"Muskoka is heaven on earth for many people," says Robert. "It is about two hours north of Toronto. Some people call it the Hamptons of Canada." In fact, it's relaxed and laid-back for retired hockey players, where casual is the name of the game.

Muskoka is a unique place because it is where three large rivers meet, so plenty of residents of the area live in the main house up on a hill and spend time in their boathouse. "Muskoka is all about the boathouse. I mean, if they would let you, people just have a boathouse and no house at all," Robert laughs. 

As a native Canadian, Robert understood the depth of beauty that Muskoka had to offer, but for Kym, who was born and raised in Australia, she had to see it to believe it. "It was so different for me. But the first time Robert brought me here, I could not believe it," she admits. "It looked like something out of The Parent Trap, which is one of my favorite movies. It was like a summer camp, which was something I'd always dreamt of doing." 

One of the main draws of the home is the enormous fireplace in the living room. What it lacks in depth, it makes up for in serious height. Plus, the entire thing is handmade using Muskoka rock.
