A 3-Generation 720 Sq Ft NYC Apartment for Family of Five

We're visiting the Washington Heights apartment of Sarah and Peterson Almodovar, a rent-stabilized home that has been in Peterson's family for over fifty years, passed down from his grandparents, to his parents, and now to the family of five they're raising here today.

After living in the original apartment for an extended period, Sarah and Peterson embark on a gut renovation, fully transforming a neglected bachelor pad into a warm, deeply personal family home: exposed brick, custom woodworking, salvaged glass panel doors, and a full-size washer dryer that Sarah calls a non-negotiable.

With three kids, a talent for creative problem-solving, and a belief that families need less space than they think, Sarah and Peterson have turned 720 square feet in New York City into proof that a home isn't defined by its size, but by the intention, history, and love poured into it.
