Inside a Beautifully Restored 1,000-Year-Old Castle in the Italian Countryside
Set in the rolling hills of Umbria, Kim and Mark Green’s castello feels both storied and effortlessly inviting—a place where old-world beauty meets the ease of everyday living.
After years of traveling through Europe, the couple knew exactly what they were looking for. When they discovered this 12th-century castle, they saw not just its history—but its potential to become a home. With the guidance of architect Domenico Minchilli and designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard, the castello has been thoughtfully restored, honoring its remarkable past while introducing a sense of comfort and livability that feels entirely natural.
Inside you'll find elegant silk wallcoverings, beautiful textiles from Italy and France, and a warmth that softens the scale of the space. The grand salon sets the tone of the castello—anchored by a sweeping fireplace and designed for gathering, whether it’s a quiet evening by the fire or a room full of friends.
The kitchen, meanwhile, is where daily life truly unfolds—a thoughtful blend of the castle’s original architecture and the polished ease of a Michelin-level space, designed for cooking, conversation, and lingering moments. It’s a home that celebrates tradition without feeling formal—a castle that invites you to settle in, pour a glass of wine, and stay awhile.
