We’ve said it before, and we’ll keep saying it: The area rug is the most important piece of decor in any room. (Note: Not all rooms need a rug, but a rug can only improve upon a room.) Think of the area rug like the jewelry in that it’s not totally necessary, but it acts as a finishing touch that ties the rest of the design scheme together. Plus, having something comfortable to walk on is never a bad thing.
Rugs aren’t perfect, though. Their flaw? The price. More often than not, area rugs—especially bigger ones required to cover the necessary floor space—can get expensive. So, we took it upon ourselves to find the best ones on the market that aren’t outrageously pricey. In fact, we’d even go so far as to say these are surprisingly affordable. Rest assured, though, they do not skimp on style or comfort.
So, if you’re in the market to give your living space, dining area, or any other room in your home a little refresh for fall, trust us; start with the floor. You’d be amazed to discover just how much of a difference the rug can make. There’s no need to start buying all new furniture because the rug alone can completely transform a room without you having to do or spend a whole lot. Without further ado, check out some of our favorite affordable area rugs.

The Best Affordable Area Rugs at a Glance
The Best Affordable Are Rug Overall: Ruggable x Morris & Co. Daisy Oak Rug
Starting at just $139, this gorgeous area rug is the brainchild of Ruggable and English textile giant Morris & Co. Though it can work in pretty much any space, we happen to think it would shine brightest in a room that boasts a cottagecore look. Yes, it would look very cool in an all-white kitchen (perhaps as a runner), but since this rug is so warm and inviting, we suggest popping it in a living room and call it a day.
The Best 100% Wool Rug: Rainier Wool Rug
In case you missed it, Ruggable just launched perhaps its best collection yet: wool area rugs. The collection is small (there are only 14 rugs at the moment), but what it lacks in SKUs it makes up for in major style and comfort. The wool is unbelievably soft and each piece looks way more expensive than it actually is, which is reason enough to snag one. Personally, the Rainer (in brown) is our favorite of the 14 because it has enough of a pattern to kind of set the tone in a room, but the muted and earthy colors don’t allow it to overtake the space. In other words, it’s perfect.
The Best Washable Area Rug: Ruggable x Scalamandré Leaping Cheetah Rug
If this rug looks familiar that’s probably because you’ve seen the print on Scalamandré, another beloved textile company. Since this is a bold floor covering, put it somewhere it will be seen. One thing to note: It’s not great in a high-traffic area, as the gloss will eventually wear down. We don’t recommend putting this one in an entryway, for instance. Place it in a bedroom, hallway, or, hear us out, a powder room.
The Best Area Rug Deal: Rugs USA Cranbury Plush Washable Rug
As much as we love the idea of a conversation-starting rug, there’s something to be said about a neutral alternative that gives the space warmth and cozy vibes. This one, starting at just $79, is an easy winner. What’s more, it’s 87 percent off and comes in 10 colors, including an oxblood and minty green.
The Best Plush Rug: AllModern Hand-Tufted Geometric Rug
If you’re incorporating an area rug into your space, it may as well be comfortable underfoot, right? This high-pile rug from AllModern almost looks like something you’d find in a midcentury modern ranch-style house in Palm Springs. The best part? It’s super cozy with an almost chenille-like feel to it. Perhaps because it’s 100 percent wool and meticulously hand-tufted for added plushness. It also comes in two additional colors, so feel free to nab one that suits your space.
