An Eclectic NYC Apartment Layered with European Antiques and Art
Interior designer Alexander Doherty welcomes us inside his extraordinary Upper West Side apartment, a richly layered New York City home where classic architecture meets deeply personal collecting.
After years of searching for the right space, Alexander transformed this top-floor rental into a refined retreat with wall-to-wall silk carpeting, upholstered walls, custom millwork, and a thoughtfully curated mix of French antiques, Scandinavian seating, African chairs, and neoclassical details.
From a dramatic living room anchored by a decorative fireplace to a library-dining room lined with 19th-century French bookcases, every room reflects Alexander’s love of history, craftsmanship, and storytelling. His bedroom is filled with favorite artworks, vintage finds, and treasured objects collected from Paris, Egypt, and beyond—each piece chosen for beauty, memory, and meaning.
Alexander has masterfully turned a standard New York rental into a soulful, elegant sanctuary that feels both grand and deeply personal.
