Vintage Vibes
Maximalist Style & Collected Charm in This Cozy 1,200 Sq Ft Home
Today we’re visiting interior designer Julia Chasman at her soulful Craftsman bungalow in Eagle Rock, Los Angeles.
Originally built over a century ago, this home is remarkably intact, with original stained glass windows, rich woodwork, and a Batchelder tile fireplace that immediately captured Julia’s heart.
After decades producing feature films, Julia pivoted to interior design, launching her practice through a series of self-funded renovations that blended preservation, storytelling, and bold personal vision. That same philosophy defines her own home.
A passionate collector, Julia layers meaningful antiques, mid-century furniture, global textiles, and deeply personal heirlooms throughout the space. From her mother’s Steinway grand piano to Picasso ceramics collected by her father every object carries history.
Color drenching, checkerboard patterns, charming kitchen fittings from Vintage Tub and Bath, and a fearless mix of marble, soapstone, and vibrant Farrow & Ball hues give the home a maximalist warmth without ever sacrificing comfort. Vintage oil paintings, Staffordshire pottery, Moroccan rugs, needlework, children’s chairs, and tiny doll furniture pieces add charm and whimsy at every turn.
The result is a richly layered, character-filled home that feels timeless, creative, and unmistakably Julia’s—proof that even a modest footprint can hold a lifetime of stories.
