Inside Meg Braff’s Classic New York Home and Gardens

Step inside the boldly elegant world of interior designer Meg Braff, whose Locust Valley home is a masterclass in timeless style with a spirited dose of color.

Nestled on Long Island’s North Shore, this former 1960s ranch has been completely reimagined as a gracious two-story home that nods to classic Regency design while embracing the warmth of Southern hospitality.

From the moment you enter, it’s clear that color is at the heart of Meg’s design philosophy. Every room speaks in its own tone—soft apricot in the living room, peacock blue in the butler’s pantry, and a joyous chartreuse in the paneled library—all thoughtfully connected to create a harmonious rhythm throughout the home.

Braff’s signature mix of antiques, chinoiserie accents, grasscloth walls, and bespoke upholstery brings a cultivated elegance to the interiors. In the formal living room, a monumental Coromandel screen and long-stored chinoiserie panels set the palette for the entire home, while vintage mantels and Venetian plaster finishes add depth and dimension.

Outside, the home is framed by beautifully landscaped gardens that echo the grace of the interiors—offering a serene backdrop of mature trees, manicured hedges, and seasonal blooms. These outdoor spaces extend the home’s sense of quiet sophistication and provide a peaceful escape just steps from the heart of the house.

Despite its refinement, the home was designed for real family living. With four sons, Braff created spaces that are both polished and personal, including cozy bedrooms, a welcoming upstairs hangout, and fireplaces that draw the family together throughout the seasons.
