Keith Meacham’s Timeless Nashville Home Filled with Rich History

Keith Meacham, founder of Reed Smythe & Company, a design and interior brand, welcomes us into her traditional Georgian home in Nashville.

After years of dreaming about life beyond their Upper East Side apartment, Keith and her husband, Pulitzer Prize-winning presidential biographer and historian Jon Meacham, made a bold move south—spurred by an unexpected connection to the very first home they toured.

Set on nearly five acres, the stately brick house offered room for their growing family and a fresh start—but it needed imagination and heart to become a true home. Collaborating with celebrated New York-based designers Bill Brockschmidt and Courtney Coleman, Keith embraced a year-long renovation that honored the home’s original footprint while completely rethinking how each space could serve modern family life. The result is a layered, soulful home that blends Southern tradition with urbane polish—from a cozy, book-filled study for Jon to a striking kitchen that now anchors the home.

Keith shares how her work with Reed Smythe & Company—a home and lifestyle brand known for its collaboration with Southern artisans and its celebration of soulful, storied objects—influenced her approach to decorating. The home reflects that ethos: meaningful, curated, and deeply personal, with every room telling a story.
