A Thoughtfully Remodeled 1981 Lake House That Honors Its Original Charm

When Hannah Goldberg set out to remodel her family’s beloved 1981 Cape Cod–style lake house in Chautauqua, New York, the goal wasn’t to erase its past—it was to build on it. The 2,400-square-foot retreat now balances the charm of an original lake cottage with thoughtful updates designed for modern family life.

Throughout the home, vintage details and regional finds are paired with smart spatial reconfigurations and elevated finishes. One of Hannah’s favorite details is the collection of vintage dressers repurposed as bathroom vanities, preserving their character while incorporating modern plumbing and lighting.

As the founder of Hannah Charlotte Interiors, Hannah brought her background in engineering and interior architecture to the renovation, creating a home that feels both functional and collected. The result is a warm, nostalgic retreat that honors the history of the house while making room for the next generation.
