Interior designer Louisa Greville Williams welcomes us into her colorful and deeply personal London home, where a lifetime of collections, family heirlooms, antiques, and artwork come together. After moving from the country to London, Louisa wanted her flat to retain the warmth and comfort of a country home — layered over time rather than feeling overly designed.

From her emerald green sitting room and tiny but hardworking kitchen to bedrooms filled with chintz, collected fabrics, and inherited furniture, every room reflects Louisa’s love of color, pattern, and repurposing the things she already owns. With sweeping views of the river and thoughtful design at every turn, this is a London home that feels both sophisticated and wonderfully lived in.

A cozy breakfast nook is welcome in any home, but it feels especially so when tucked into a large bay window overlooking a beautiful landscape just beyond. And for Louisa, the sky played a huge role in her design scheme for this charming little vignette. "This area in the window was incredibly important to me because I wanted to make the most of the windows, the view, and the river," she insists. "So I had these banquettes made, and there's a lot of storage underneath as well." Storage in a small kitchen is key, and Louisa understood the assignment.

Just behind the nook is the kitchen, which, Louisa admits, is quite small, but she makes it work for her, her husband, and their six children. "Amazingly, I've managed to squeeze everything I need in here because I absolutely love entertainment," she says. "We have two tables in here, and I can feed all [all of our children and their friends] across both, which is really nice." As for the cabinetry, she opted for what she calls a Wedgwood blue color. "I don't know why. Mainly because we have this big sky outside, and I just kept on thinking about blue."

Never one to toss something perfectly good, Louisa brought this sofa, and it's beautiful upholstery from her former home, and she has no regrets. "This sofa was covered in this fabric in my house before, and I didn't want to react to it because it was in perfectly good nick and it just seemed so wasteful." 

Louisa's design philosophy is on particularly good display in her bedroom. She says, "I wanted the space to feel welcoming and comfortable and not too sophisticated. I was going to bring a lot of old antiques and belongings that I've had in other houses, because I'm very keen on reusing things as much as possible, so I just wanted it to feel like a home and like it had evolved over a long time rather than being brand new."
