Vintage Vibes

A Beautiful Texas Bungalow Brimming with English Charm

When Caroline Pinkston and her family decided to renovate their 1950s Austin bungalow, they wanted more room without losing the character that had drawn them to the house in the first place.

Working with client-turned-interior designer Shannon Eddings, Pinkston wanted to preserve the home's original charm while rethinking and expanding the layout for family life. Drawing inspiration from British interiors, the design brings together traditional details, expressive patterns, vintage finds and an unexpected palette of color.

Thoughtful choices give each space its own distinct yet cohesive personality. Yellow hues connect the first floor, a striped House of Hackney wallpaper sets the tone in the dining room, and a bold pink marble remnant became the centerpiece of the primary bathroom.

The kitchen's concealed appliances and generous island make entertaining easier, while the screened porch and pool extend the living space outdoors. Antiques and secondhand pieces, many sourced at Round Top or through Facebook Marketplace, add warmth and a sense of history.

For Pinkston, the result is a home that feels considered but never too formal for the everyday rhythms of a family with three young children.
