Bold & Timeless Style in This Stunning Houston Home

In Houston’s Heights neighborhood, designer and architect Benjamin Johnston welcomes us inside the home he built from the ground up with his partner, Erich. Serving as both sanctuary and creative laboratory, the residence is a true reflection of Benjamin’s signature philosophy: classic, curated, and cool.

Designed as a series of beautifully unfolding moments, the home centers around a dramatic light-filled atrium, with each space offering its own distinct personality. The deep blue lounge was inspired by a single painting and sets the tone for Benjamin’s fearless use of color and scale. In the dining room, sculptural lighting floats above custom furnishings from his own collection, while layered wall coverings and silk-and-wool rugs add warmth and dimension throughout.

The kitchen balances timeless materials with thoughtful innovation, proving that elegance and livability can coexist. Upstairs, the primary suite shifts into a darker, moodier palette—creating what Benjamin calls a “nighttime space”—complete with a striking marble bath and impeccably tailored dressing room.

Outside, the home extends into a resort-like backyard with a lap pool, outdoor living room, and sculptural focal points that blur the line between architecture and art. Every detail, from fluted millwork to over scaled lighting, reflects Benjamin’s belief that great design should take risks and tell a story.

The home is also featured on the cover of Benjamin’s new book, Refined Interiors: Timeless Homes for Modern Living.
