Inside a Colorful Georgian Flat in Bath with Soaring 15-Foot Ceilings

Designer, author, and creative strategist Emilio Pimentel-Reid has created an eclectic, deeply personal home in his historic Georgian flat in Bath, England. Bringing together centuries of design, objects collected around the world, and influences from his years working in the design industry, the space is a reflection of Emilio’s life—from his upbringing in the Dominican Republic to his years in New York City and London.

Emilio and his husband found the flat after looking at more than 36 properties, but he knew almost immediately that this was the one. Set across the ground and first floors of an 1815 building, the home retains its grand proportions, soaring 15-foot ceilings, restored cornices, original shutters, and historic fireplaces. Rather than treating the space like a museum, Emilio has layered Regency and Georgian antiques with 20th-century design, contemporary ceramics, flea-market finds, and playful objects collected throughout his life.

Every room reflects his instinct for mixing periods, cultures, colors, and textures. In the living room, Regency furniture sits alongside a Spanish brass table, a 1970s chrome lamp, books on Brutalist architecture, and objects from Emilio’s travels. Plants inspired by the Mediterranean and Caribbean fill the generous rooms, adding color and warmth to the grand spaces.

The same eclectic approach continues throughout the home, from the contemporary kitchen tucked into the former “withdrawing” room to the cozy library, where stacks of design, travel, and art books climb almost to the ceiling.

Throughout, Emilio mixes antiques with pieces from flea markets, high-street shops, and contemporary designers, proving that a home doesn’t need to follow a single style to feel cohesive. For him, the most important thing is that the objects have meaning and that the mix reflects the lives of the people who live there.

Emilio’s career has spanned interiors styling, editing, creative direction, and brand strategy, including roles at Nest and ELLE Decoration UK, where he became decorating editor. Today, he works with design brands and businesses on creative direction and brand development, while writing about design and interiors. He is also the author of several books, including his latest, All Things Considered, which explores interiors with personality and flair.

For Emilio, this flat is ultimately a place to escape to—a light-filled, cocooning home that continues to evolve with him. As he puts it, the people who live in a home give it its soul, and here, every collected object, inherited memory, and unexpected combination contributes to a home that feels unmistakably his.
